Clare is currently a PhD student working in the history department at the University of Exeter. She was awarded a 1+3 studentship by the Economic and Social Research Council in 2012 to undertake a Masters of Research and PhD. Her thesis is on the post-war reconstruction of the British South Western cities of Bristol, Exeter and Plymouth, comparing their experience to that of the larger UK cities. Prior to her return to study in 2012, Clare worked in heritage and libraries, specialising in local studies and the city of Exeter. She spent four years working at the Westcountry Studies Library in Exeter and there consolidated her interest in local history, and in particular the history and development of the built environment. She still maintains strong links with the heritage and local studies sector through her research and volunteer work.
